FLASH: IPXP Transitions to PCIP

On July 1, 2013, state-run operation of the Illinois Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (IPXP) is transitioning to the federally run Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP). The PCIP coverage then runs through December 2013. Illinois, like many other states, made this decision to ensure that members will still have access to coverage until more options are available on January 1, 2014.

We will not be overseeing the federal plan. Claims with a date of service prior to July 1, 2013 will continue to be administered by us, and timely filing limits will apply to all applicable contractual claims.

We will be sending members instructions through the mail that will help them move to the federal plan. PCIP has successfully administered coverage for more than 100,000 members in similar circumstances. We expect a smooth transition for the members of the IPXP program.
