FLASH: Some State Employees & Retirees Must Make Change by January 31

Your patients with State of Illinois employee or retiree coverage might have questions about our HMO recently being awarded a long-term contract. These talking points will help you answer those questions.

  • Most State of Illinois employees and retirees don’t have to do anything to keep their Health Alliance coverage.
  • Those who have Health Alliance Illinois coverage (Carrier Code BS) and live or work in these counties will receive letters from the State explaining their options for coverage beginning February 1, 2013:
    • Adams
    • Alexander
    • Brown
    • Cass
    • Clark
    • Clay
    • Crawford
    • DeKalb
    • Edgar
    • Edwards
    • Greene
    • Hamilton
    • Hancock
    • Jefferson
    • Jersey
    • Lawrence
    • Macon
    • Macoupin
    • Marion
    • Massac
    • Pike
    • Pope
    • Pulaski
    • Richland
    • Schuyler
    • Scott
    • Wabash
    • Wayne
    • White
  • We will send postcards to affected State employees and retirees to help them see the benefits of staying with us and to explain what action they must take.
  • Those affected can still see their current Primary Care Physician (PCP).
  • Those affected will receive the same benefits they receive today.
  • Those affected will even pay a lower monthly premium for their dependents when they choose our HMO.
  • To choose our HMO, your patients should select Carrier Code AH by January 31, 2013.
  • Those in affected counties must make a decision by January 31, 2013. If they don’t, they will default to the State’s Quality Care plan.

Tell your patients to visit HealthAlliance.org/StateFAQ or call us at the number on the back of their ID card for more information. Thank you for helping your patients, our members, understand they can continue to receive State of Illinois employee and retiree coverage from us.
