UPDATE: Oxygen at Home Approvals Not Extended for All Members with COVID-19
March 31, 2021Due to the 1135 Waiver, we had previously waived the current national and local coverage determinations that otherwise restrict coverage of the home use of oxygen for members diagnosed with COVID-19. That change allowed practitioners the option of treating their patients with home use of oxygen during the COVID-19 public health emergency.
The waived national and local coverage determinations will be put back into place beginning April 1, 2021 for all products and members, including Medicare Advantage and Commercial members. We will resume medical necessity reviews for coverage of home use of oxygen as of April 1, 2021, going back to the status that existed prior to the COVID-19 public health emergency.
