As our communities dealt with the first weeks and months of the COVID-19 pandemic, we took multiple steps to remove authorizations for care to ensure expedient healthcare services were available for members and to ease the administrative burden on providers during the early part of the crisis. Important Update: On July 1, 2020, the new policy governing reimbursement for high cost medical drugs administered in a medical setting will go into effect. Please note that this policy was previously scheduled to take effect June 1, 2020, but the start date has been pushed to July 1 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As our communities continue to deal with the impact of COVID-19, we’ve taken multiple steps to remove barriers and limit unneeded restrictions to the care our members seek. As many of our providers are now beginning to reschedule elective procedures previously delayed due to the pandemic, we write to remind you that we have extended the length of the below authorizations from 90 days to 180 days.

A reminder that a new policy governing reimbursement for high cost medical drugs administered in a medical setting will go into effect June 1, 2020. A letter was mailed February 28, 2020 to Health Alliance contracted providers in Illinois and other Midwestern states notifying them of this policy update.
